Before this there were only short cartoons played before movies. This is an excellent film with great music and emotional moments that changed the entire filmmaking industry.
Part of the resurgence of animated Disney films in the 1990s, Mulan takes the true legend of the Chinese hero and turns it into a fun tale of bravery, adventure, and honor. It's got great action and amazing performances from Ming-Na Wen, B.D. Wong, Eddie Murphy, and Miguel Ferrer. This one's a solid film from it's stirring music to it's impactful story.
18. One Hundred and One Dalmatians
Most people don't know that One Hundred and One Dalmatians saved Disney animation as the filmmakers created a new, cheaper way to animate films that didn't cost the studio as much as their previous movies. It's full of fun, drama, and thrills. Cruella de Vil is one of the best villains in Disney history and her madness is on full display here. It's also got some unforgettable songs and a family-driven story.

A classic coming of age story, The Jungle Book is such a fun film. An underrated film from the early 2000s, Meet the Robinsons tells the story of an odd family from the future. It's a quirky movie with lots of strange characters and a cool retro sci-fi aesthetic. This is a throwback film with an interesting modern story and an important message.
A really meaningful movie, Zootopia tells a story that reflects our modern world. Both Jennifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman do an amazing job as the lead characters who both have fantastic arcs. There's a mystery element to this one that helps set it apart.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame was one of the riskiest movies from the Mouse House. It's a dark tale of vengeance, loyalty, longing, and love. It doesn't shy away from it's political aspects and religious undertones which is quite shocking. However, this is also one of the most uplifting films from the studio and has some of the most emotional scenes of any Disney movie.
One of the best modern princess tales, Moana tells the story of the islander and her people with meaning and purpose. It's got brilliant musical numbers and both Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson bring their A-game to the lead roles. The film looks gorgeous and does unexpected things with it's characters and story.

This is the quintessential version of a classic story. Peter Pan is full of action, comedy, and wonder. It's a fairy tale with something for everyone including some unforgettable music. The movie has one of the best villains in Captain Hook who's played expertly by Hans Conried along with the rest of it's amazing cast.

An amazingly adorable and shockingly tragic tale, The Fox and the Hound is one of the best films the studio has ever made. It's a cute story about friendship, loyalty, and the cultural woes that keep us apart. There are so many important and relevant themes in the movie and great characters too.
An awesome soundtrack from Phil Collins elevates this already great film to another level. Superb voice acting by Tony Goldwyn, Minnie Driver, Glenn Close, and Lance Henriksen give the film it's emotional weight and lots of good comedy. The story is a classic and one of the best love stories ever told.

Never has there been a more fun movie from Disney than Robin Hood. The movie features terrific performances from it's cast and some of the most wonderful songs in Disney history. This is one of the best film versions of the character and his significant story of outlaw justice.
A brilliant film based on the true story, Pocahontas is full of fantastic songs, astounding acting, and a powerful and emotional story. Irene Bedard and Mel Gibson are totally believable as the titular beautiful strong-willed princess and the curious and charming John Smith. Theirs is a tempestuous relationship because of the at-odds relationship between their respective peoples, but it's one that can't be broken no matter their distance or cultural differences.
Tangled is one of the funniest, most enchanting, and most dramatic films in modern Disney's filmography. It's a film that takes equal interest in the princess and her male counterpart as Flynn Rider plays an important role in Rapunzel's journey. There's a vital message here and unforgettable music throughout the movie.
One of the few central male heroes of Disney's movies, Aladdin is a fully fleshed-out character. He's a selfish scoundrel who learns valuable life lessons in this essential story. Scott Weinger and Linda Larkin play so well off each other as our hero and the tough princess Jasmine while Johnathan Freeman's bring a sinister quality to Jafar and Robin Williams gives his best and zaniest performance as Genie.

There's a dangerous quality to this film because it takes risks and dives into issues not usually put forward in a children's film. Not only does this film feature the best animation of any Disney movie in history, but it's also got an incredible musical score, astounding performances from it's cast, and an emotionally gripping story of love, betrayal, and duty. There's never been a better told story with the use of animation from it's relatable and unforgettable characters, to it's beautifully drawn landscapes, to the heartfelt voice acting, and astonishing musical numbers. The story is important and meaningful as Simba's character journey is one of the best in movie history. This is a perfect movie, making it not just the best animated film, but one of the best films of all time.
