We ranked the best stunts of the Mission series!

hello

Honorable Mention: Free Climbing The Grand Canyon

Honorable Mention: Free Climbing The Grand Canyon

There are many stunts we had to omit from this list, but the toughest one to leave off was this stunning scene from the opening moments of Mission: Impossible 2. He's really hanging there on the side of the Grand Canyon. Crazy.

10. Bridge Explosion

10. Bridge Explosion

While it may not look like such an incredible stunt, when Ethan Hunt runs from a missile aimed at the bridge he's on and slams into a car due to the large explosion behind him is really complicated and dangerous. It makes for a great looking moment in the middle of an important sequence in the third movie.

9. Sandstorm Car Chase

9. Sandstorm Car Chase

An extremely well-crafted scene, the car chase through the sandstorm is one of the most suspenseful moments from Ghost Protocol. It has Ethan Hunt driving a breakneck speeds through the streets of Dubai during a sandstorm as he chases down the villain. Not knowing what's in front of him doesn't stop Ethan from stalking his prey, showing us how determined Hunt is as a character.

8. Vault Heist

8. Vault Heist

This is the one that started it all and it's still thrilling to watch Ethan drop down from the air vent and barely miss the pressure sensitive floor. As his team each plays their parts, Hunt has to drop into the vault in the middle of the Pentagon undetected to steal highly classified information. It's a stunt that's both sweat-inducing and jaw dropping.

7. Cliffside Motorcycle Chase

7. Cliffside Motorcycle Chase

The motorcycle chase on the cliffside in Morocco is a nerve-wracking scene from Rogue Nation. It has Ethan tracking down valuable information he's just stolen from an underwater vault (more on that soon) as he jumps on a motorcycle t chase down the enemy. He's got no helmet or pads as he weaves in an out of traffic on the side of a cliff to complete his mission.

6. HALO Jump

6. HALO Jump

A high altitude low open jump is dangerous for the most experienced sky divers, but Tom Cruise did it over 100 times to get the perfect one-take shot for Fallout. He has to jump out of a plane at 25,000 feet and come within 3 feet of the camera to get into focus without crashing into his cameraman. It's the most difficult shot to capture in the film as it's shot at dusk when the lighting is just right which forced them to do it 163 times.

5. Underwater Heist

5. Underwater Heist

A shocking scene in Rogue Nation had Tom Cruise holding his breath for 6 minutes in an underwater heist. It builds great tension and you're unsure how's he's gonna pull it off until the final moments. This is one of the most intense moments of the entire series.

4. Mortorcycle Chase Through Paris

4. Mortorcycle Chase Through Paris

The most impressive thing Cruise does on a motorcycle in the series is this fast-paced chase through the streets of Paris into oncoming traffic. There are plenty of motorbike chases in the series, but none of them beat this sequence in Paris, France. It's a well-shot scene that's all based in character and story.

3. Climbing the Tallest Buidling in the World

3. Climbing the Tallest Buidling in the World

Still perhaps the most visually stunning moment in the series is when Ethan Hunt climbs the tallest building in the world. Cruise ups the ante every time and Ghost Protocol was no exception as the filmmakers crafted a ticking clock tense scene with some stomach dropping shots from the top of the Burj Khalifa. It's again all story-based and includes some of the funniest character moments.

2. Plane Ride

2. Plane Ride

In what Cruise deems his most dangerous stunt, Hunt hangs onto the side of a plane to catch the bad guys. There's drama, humor, and thrills in this scene that plays out on the side of an aircraft. It's stunning to watch, especially since it's at the beginning of the film kicking off one of the best Mission movies with a bang.

1. Helicopter Chase

1. Helicopter Chase

The newest stunt has Cruise piloting an helicopter chasing down the villain in some of the most shocking, edge-of-your-seat sequences ever put on film. He puts his piloting skills to use here as Ethan Hunt must fight a helicopter with a helicopter in an amazing moment from the newest film. I don't know how they'll top this one, but I've said that for three movie straight now, so I'm sure we'll see more incredible stunts from the madman Tom Cruise.
