Best Stan Lee Marvel Movie Cameos
Here are our picks for the best Stan Lee film cameos!
1. Chess Player in The Avengers
This brief moment at the end of the first Avengers movie from 2012 is the best Stan Lee cameo. Not only is he playing a New Yorker playing chess in Central Park while being interviewed on a news station, but he's also delivering his best line. That dialogue is, "Superheroes? In New York? Give me a break!" This moment is both hilarious and ironic since he's the one who created these characters and placed most of them in NYC.
2. Military Veteran in Avengers: Age of Ultron
In 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Stan Lee plays a military vet attending Tony Stark's party an Avengers Tower in NYC. At the bar, Stan asks Thor to pour him a glass of the god of thunder's strong Asgardian drink. Thor tells him, "No, no, no see this... This was aged for a thousand years in barrels built from the wreck of Brunhil's fleet. It is not for mortal men." Lee responds, "Neither was Omaha beach blondie. Stop tryin' to scare us. Come on." Thor says, "Alright." He then pours him a glass, and in the next scene we see Lee being carried away from the bar while mumbling his catchphrase, "Excelsior!"
3. Librarian in The Amazing Spider-Man
In one of his most memorable roles, Stan plays a librarian who is oblivious to the battle raging behind him. This one is from 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man and has the Web Head fighting The Lizard throughout the school when they break through the walls of the school library where Stan is listening to music via headphones unaware of the destruction being caused behind him.
4. Rejected Wedding Guest in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
In this cameo from 2007's Fantastic Four sequel, Stan tries to get into the wedding of Reed Richards and Sue Storm. It's a moment that breaks the fourth wall as he tells the security guard his name is Stan Lee after the guard asks to see his invitation.
5. FedEx Deliveryman in Captain America: Civil War
At the end of Captain America: Civil War in 2016, Stan arrives as a FedEx deliveryman who drops off an important package to Tony Stark. However, he misreads his name on the package, calling him Tony Stank.
6. Fred's Dad in Big Hero 6
In the post-credits scene of Disney's first-ever animated film based on a Marvel comic, Stan shows up as the long-lost father of one of the characters. It's an excellent moment which treats the Marvel maestro with respect giving him an epic entrance and some funny dialogue.
7. Gary in Spider-Man: Homecoming
Spider-Man: Homecoming from 2017 has Lee yelling at Spidey after the teenage superhero mistakenly apprehends a car owner whom he thought was a car thief. Having Stan call the Web Slinger a punk and threaten him is hysterical and the brief conversation he strikes up with his neighbor afterwards is an added stroke of genius.
8. Army General in Captain America: The First Avenger
The simple line, " I thought he'd be taller." That's all it takes for him to create a roar of laughter in this scene from 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger in which a group of dignitaries await the arrival of Cap at a ceremony in Washington D.C. only to have the super-solider be a no-show.
9. Pick-Up Truck Driver in Thor
After Thor's hammer Mjolnir falls to the earth in 2011's Thor, it becomes immovable. Soon half of the population of New Mexico is at the crater site trying to pull the object out of the ground. Stan is one of these people who tries to pull the weapon out of the earth as he drives his pick-up truck after others tie a chain around it. His quip, "Did it work?" is one of the funniest moments in the film.
10. Sakaaran Hairstylist in Thor: Ragnarok
After Thor arrives on the planet Sakaar in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, The Grandmaster throws him into the Contest of Champions. Before he fights in the arena, though, the Asgardian gets a haircut from an old man who turns out to be Stan. It's a funny and terrifying moment as Lee tells Thor, "Now don't you move, my hands aren't as steady as they used to be." When Thor pleads for mercy, Lee just laughs.
Honorable Mention: Bartender in Ant-Man
The 2015 film Ant-Man has Lee playing a bartender who is a part of the flashback story that Luis is telling Scott Lang. It's a great moment as Luis is voicing every character, so we hear him saying, "Crazy Stupid Fine" while Stan's lips are moving.
