Most Anticipated Films Of 2019

Here are the films we want to see most in 2019!

hello

Honorable Mention - Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Honorable Mention - Godzilla: King of the Monsters

The follow-up to 2014's Godzilla film and the next entry in the MosterVerse, King of the Monsters promises to be an epic showdown featuring the titular creature and his most formidable adversaries. With Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah on the scene this is sure to showcase some intense battles between the behemoths. With a stellar cast including Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farminga, and Kyle Chandler, the team behind-the-scenes is obviously still dedicated to giving us quality human drama in the midst of the chaos and destruction.

10. Rambo V: Last Blood

10. Rambo V: Last Blood

The final installment in the Rambo franchise, Last Blood is sure to be a heartfelt swan song for the tortured former Green Beret. The plot has an aging John J. Rambo going after a dangerous drug cartel in Mexico after his friend's daughter is kidnapped. This plot gives off a Taken-vibe, but from the images released from the set, and the unique setting, it sounds more like a modern western. Stallone is sure to bring the emotional drama and brutal action in this last outing for one of his most celebrated characters.

9. Brightburn

9. Brightburn

The shocking first trailer for Brightburn debuted recently and blew everyone away. It's clearly a new take on the Superman myth which has a kindly farm couple find an alien baby and raise him as their own, but when he exhibits unusual abilities this kid starts to use them for more nefarious purposes. That teaser has a creepy tone and some really startling moments in it. This looks to be a fun new take on a classic superhero story that's sure to please fans of the horror and superhero genres. With Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn producing and two of his brothers writing the script, this it's sure to be a very original film.

8. Spider-Man: Far From Home

8. Spider-Man: Far From Home

After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, fans wondered what the next Spider-Man movie would be like and how he'd even be in it. The first trailer for the upcoming movie largely ignores the events of Infinity War and seems to pick up after the previous film, Homecoming, showing us Peter Parker and his high school friends on a field trip to Europe where they encounter new villains and a new ally(?) in the mysterious Mysterio. The classic Spidey villain looks awesome and Jake Gyllenhaal was a great choice for the role and his relationship with Peter will be fascinating to watch.

7. Dark Phoenix

7. Dark Phoenix

The X-Men movies kicked off the superhero craze back in 2000 and now they come full circle with Dark Phoenix. This movie is essentially a remake of the 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand which closed the original X-Men trilogy but was not met with much critical acclaim. First time director and longtime producer/writer Simon Kinberg takes the reigns this time and looks to deliver a more dramatic and character-focused movie than the previous lackluster entry, X-Men: Apocalypse. The cast is fantastic and the action looks spectacular.

6. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

6. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

The final chapter in the Dragon trilogy, The Hidden World seems like it will be the perfect close to this story of unlikely hero Hiccup and his loyal pet dragon Toothless. The animation looks stunning and the action will be epic. This has always been a well balanced franchise that has grown up with it's audience becoming more dramatic and serious as it goes while maintaining the humor and heart of the original film. The talented voice cast is also returning to take these characters on one last adventure.

5. Shazam!

5. Shazam!

Big meets Superman in this comedic action/adventure from WB and DC. The hilarious trailer was a stand out from the rest of the comic book films due to it's originality and comedic tone. It'll be a blast to see this one in theaters and I'm curious to see how much it connects to the previous DCEU films. Asher Angel and Zahary Levi seem to be doing a great job of playing the same kid in two very different bodies. This one is gonna have fun with his unique superpowers and dual identities.

4. Captain Marvel

4. Captain Marvel

The superhero origin story told in reverse, Captain Marvel finds space-faring Starforce soldier Carol Danvers searching for answers on Earth as an alien invasion looms. Teaming up with the likes of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, she discovers her former life as an Air Force pilot and must stop a war between the honorable Kree and shape-shifting Skrulls. It's sure to be an odd experience but a welcome one that will usher in a new era for the MCU. Plus with Oscar-winner Brie Larson in the title role, we're in for a knockout lead performance.

3. Glass

3. Glass

M. Night Shaymalan's third entry in the Eastrail 177 trilogy, Glass continues the superhero/thriller franchise that started with Unbreakable and left off with Split. This psychologically-driven take on modern comic book mythology is sure to be a surprising look at these characters and this completely fresh story. It looks like it'll be action-packed while still maintaining the character-focus and intense tone the series is known for. Featuring Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and James McAvoy in the lead roles makes this one an embarrassment of riches as far as casting goes.

2. Avengers: Endgame

2. Avengers: Endgame

Since Avengers: Infinity War fans have speculated how things will end for Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Endgame. The story of these disparate heroes from all corners of the galaxy comes to a head here as they look to undo the devastation they experienced after Thanos annihilated half of all life in the universe. It's sure to be an emotional journey filled with action, humor, and the big heart Marvel movies are known for. This is gonna be an epic, yet hopefully it won't forget the intimacy we'll need it to have if this will be our last time with this incredible cast of heroes.

1. Star Wars: Episode IX

1. Star Wars: Episode IX

The last episode in the Star Wars sequel trilogy is our most anticipated movie of the year. Wrapping up each character's storyline and bringing fans a satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga is no small task, but it's one we're sure writer/director J.J Abrams and scribe Chris Terrio are up to. This phenomenal cast is sure to deliver on the material and the rest of the team from costumes to make up to visual effects will no doubt blow us away. Simply hearing that John Williams score is sure to bring up all of the emotions for generations of fans of this beloved franchise.
