Ranking The Planet Of The Apes Movies
Here's our ranking of the Planet of the Apes franchise!
9. Beneath the Planet of the Apes
A bizarre movie even for this out-there franchise, Beneath the Planet of the Apes is a strange mess of a film. While it seeks to progress the story and expand the mythology, it does so very poorly. Granted, it was a near-impossible task to follow-up one of the greatest films in science fiction movie history, but this one looses so much of the heart and goes for a silly storyline with wooden characters. Also, the absence of Carlton Heston is felt throughout. However, there are some merits as they certainly didn't play it safe and the ending is almost as thrilling and shocking as the first's.
8. Battle for the Planet of the Apes
The original movie series died out with this dud of a movie. While there are some cool moments here and there, and the film-makers do a good job of connecting the films by bringing the story full circle, overall, this one's a boring snooze-fest. For a movie called Battle for the Planet of the Apes, there's not a lot of action. Instead we get too much set up, and most of that is far too meandering. The final titular battle is actually quite good, but most of the stuff beforehand is lame, and that's too bad because some good actors get terrible roles with awful dialogue. Also, while I get the beautiful poetic imagery, this one features possibly the stupidest final frame of any film I've ever seen.
