Top Ten Moments From Comic-Con 2017
There were tons of announcements, posters and trailer released at Comic-Con this in in San Diego! Here are our top ten moments from the international convention!
10. Young Justice: Outsiders Announcements
During their animation panel, DC and Warner Bros. brought out the creative team behind Young Justice to talk about the recently announced third season of the show which was cancelled much too soon. The artwork revealed the old and new characters in the series. Returning are Static, Kid Flash, Robin, Wonder Girl, Blue Beetle, Arsenal, and Beast Boy, as well as Artemis, Nightwing, Black Lightning, and Superboy. New characters include Spoiler, Thirteen, and Arrowette. This series is sure to make big waves when it returns next year as the creators said the show will skew more adult as the show grows up with the characters and the audience. Look for the first two season on Blu-ray and the new season on DC and WB's streaming service later in 2018.
9. Black Panther Poster & Footage
There was a ton of Black Panther footage shown at the Marvel panel. There was an extended sequence which showed off Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman running into each other at a casino in Korea where Black Panther and the Dora Milaje were about to stop a major arms deal. A chase on the freeway was also screened which had T'Challa put on his suit Tony Stark-style as he rides atop vehicles chasing down Ulysses Klaue who has a new arm which transforms into a sonic canon. This movie sounds insane and the poster they released is much better than their last as the King of Wakanda looks over his nation. The movie will be in theaters on February 16, 2018.
8. Star Trek: Discovery Full Trailer
This new look at the upcoming Star Trek series is our best look at the show yet. Klingons are confirmed to be the main antagonists as the story centers on a First Officer who must stop war with the fierce aliens who unite as one Empire. The action looks great but the series will still focus on characters and philosophical ideas that made this franchise stand out. Also, the special effects look amazing for a TV budget. The series begins September 24 on CBS before moving to their streaming service CBS All-Access.
7. Captain Marvel Details
Marvel dropped some bombshells about the upcoming Captain Marvel movie at their panel revealing that the movie takes place in the 1990s and that the main villains will be the Skrulls. Those creatures are aliens with the ability to shapeshift which could mean an adaptation of Secret Invasion is on it's way. That storyline had the alien beings disguising themselves as the Avengers, spying on them to find their weaknesses to take them out. Concept art showed us the lead character fighting Kree as well which could mean they'll play a big role too, likely alongside the Nova Corps, and most of it seems to take place in space. Nick Fury is confirmed to be in the film with both of his eyes this time as it's set before he gets one taken away. Brie Larson is still attached to play the titular hero who is set to arrive on March 8, 2019.
6. Stranger Things: Season Two Trailer
Bringing a new trailer for the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things 2 gave us chills. A perfect music choice with Michael Jackson's Thriller and an awesome voiceover by the great Vincent Price's was an amazing background to what was happening on screen as the folks in Hawkins are in for another scary time. Seeing these kids back was a joy and this season promises to be creepier and more epic in scope and scale as the monster seem to be Godzilla-sized this time. This trailer makes me want it to be Halloween already as it debuts on the streaming service October 27.
5. Avengers: Infinity War Poster & Teaser
Marvel brought the house down at the very end of their panel with a teaser for the long-awaited culmination of the past ten years of their film-making, Avengers: Infinity War. The teaser showed us Thor bumping into the Guardians of the Galaxy as they make their way to Earth to stop Thanos from destroying the planet, joining forces with the Avengers to stop him. They also gave out three separate posters during the weekend which all come together to create the huge banner you see above, showcasing every hero and villain in the film. Cap's beard, Black Widow's blonde hair, Teen Groot, Spider-Man's new suit and so many other details have us still staring at this banner. This was a major highlight for the weekend as we gear up for this movie which is on it's way to theaters, set to arrive on May 4, 2018.
4. Aquaman Footage
Jason Momoa took the stage first at Warner Bros. DC Films panel and he played to the crowd rocking out on his trident and showing the first bit of footage from his upcoming Aquaman movie. The footage teased fans with a look at the King of the Seas preparing for battle with his brother Ocean Master as armies clashed underwater and an epic sword fight began. This got everyone excited for his stand alone film after Justice League later this year. Aquaman arrives in theaters on December 21, 2018.
3. Ready Player One Debuts Trailer
Our first look at the upcoming Steven Spielberg movie Ready Player One was shown at the Warner Bros. panel and it rocked the house. This is the craziest trailer of the year. Based on the book by Ernest Cline, the film follows a kid who enters a virtual reality game and must find hidden clues within. The movie is like nothing anyone has ever seen as it references pop culture in so many ways and pays homage to classic films. Tye Sheridan looks great in the lead role and the trailer is a feast for the senses. This one's on everyone's radar now and people are sure to be in line when it comes to theaters on March 30, 2018 .
2. Thor: Ragnarok Poster & Trailer
The latest trailer for Thor: Ragnarok was shown during the Marvel Studio panel and it is the best look at the movie yet. This installment in the franchise has a more comedic tone, much like Guardians of the Galaxy, but still has some serious action and drama going on with the biggest, baddest villains the god of thunder has faced yet. The stuff with Hulk is spot on and the whole cast looks excellent. They also released a new poster for the movie which suits it's psychedelic look and feel and features every major character. Now, the next Thor adventure is my most highly anticipated Marvel movie. The movie is coming on November 3.
1. Justice League Poster & Trailer
DC Films showed up in a big way at the Warner Bros. panel showing off a new poster and trailer. The poster shows our five heroes standing together with the worlds "You Can't Save The World Alone" over them and using their symbols in creative ways. This is a bright poster and is inspired by the artwork by Alex Ross who's works include Kingdom Come. The trailer they showed fans and released online is a full four minutes long showing off more of the movie than ever before. It seems to balance humor with the action well and gives us glimpses of some incredible battle sequences as well as a first look at the villain Steppenwolf. If you weren't excited about this film before, you will be now. This film will be here on November 17.
