Adam West, TV's Batman, Has Died At 88
The actor best known for portraying the DC Comics character of Batman on television is Adam West. His campy take on The Dark Knight is legendary and remains what many people think of when they hear the name Batman. Unfortunately, the 88 year old actor passed away today after battling leukemia. West played the part of Bruce Wayne in the first-ever live-action TV show based DC Comics superhero which ran from 1966-1968 and also starred in a feature film based on the series. He would go on to reprise the role in many animated series like Super Friends and played various other characters in other series based on DC properties.
Born in Washington state, West moved to Hawaii to pursue an acting career in television. After he got the role of Batman, the rest was history. He was offered the role of James Bond which he famously turned down in 1970. West did go on to star in other shows and provided his signature baritone voice to a lot of great voice work such as the recent animated film Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders in which he starred alongside his Batman co-star Burt Ward and this year's The LEGO Batman Movie. He'll always be remembered by people of a certain age as the Caped Crusader. Adam West is survived by his six children.
