Ben Mendelsohn May Be Cast As Villain In Captain Marvel
The Aussie actor might land the role of the bad guy in the female-centric Marvel movie!
Captain Marvel Villain Could Be Played By Ben Mendelsohn!
Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are in talks with their Mississippi Grind star Ben Mendelsohn to play the Captain Marvel villain, according to Variety. He would be joining Brie Larson, who plays the title role in the Marvel Studios film. The trade says that Mendelsohn’s Captain Marvel villain will likely be the leader of the alien race, The Skrulls. The Bloodline actor played Orson Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Payne in Slow West. He will appear in the upcoming book adaptation from Steven Spielberg Ready Player One and a new Robin Hood film as well. It was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that Captain Marvel will include the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, who will instead have both of his eyes in the feature because it will be set in the early ’90s. It's also the big screen debut of the Skrulls who are consistent villains of Marvel heroes in the comics which could mean this story will be an adaptation of the Kree-Skrull War storyline.
Geneva Robertson-Dworet (upcoming Tomb Raider and Gotham City Sirens) wrote the most recent draft of the script. Writers Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) wrote the first draft of the feature. Kevin Feige will produce the film. Marvel Studios’ Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Jonathan Schwartz serve as Executive Producers alongside Stan Lee. In the regular Marvel Comics continuity, Carol Danvers made her first appearance in 1968’s Marvel Super-Heroes #13 as a Security Chief in the US air force, who is transformed following an explosion involving alien Kree technology. Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters on March 8, 2019 and will begin production next year in Los Angeles, California.
