Joker Movie Casts Batman's Father!
Last month, Alec Baldwin was rumored to be cast in Todd Phillips’ Joker origin movie as Thomas Wayne, the father of Bruce Wayne a.k.a Batman. However, Baldwin quickly debunked that rumor leaving the role open. Now, actor Brett Cullen has reportedly been tapped to take over the part. ComicBook.com broke the story about Cullen’s casting, but the news has not yet been officially verified by Warner Bros. Pictures or DC Entertainment. This will actually be Cullen’s second time in the Batman universe, after his supporting role in Christopher Nolan's 2012 trilogy closer The Dark Knight Rises as Bane’s ally, Congressman Byron Gilley. Cullen was also Barton Blaze in Ghost Rider, Goodwin Stanhope on Lost, and his other credits include Revenge, The Replacements, and Person of Interest.
It's been said that this version of the character will a younger Donald Trump-esque businessman. In the comics, Thomas Wayne is more traditionally portrayed as a wealthy philanthropist and doctor. It’s unclear if the Trump rumors were accurate, but the elder Wayne will play some role in the transformation of the Joker. Over the weekend, we got our first look at Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck who will become Joker in the film. This movie is said to be a hard-boiled crime drama set in the 1980s and inspired by Martin Scorsese's films Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy. The Joker movie will hit theaters on October 4, 2019.
