Carnage Might Be Played By Gotham Actor Cameron Monaghan

A breakout star on Fox's DC Comics-based TV series Gotham, actor Cameron Monaghan may trade comic book universes on screen to play the villain Carnage in Sony's upcoming Venom movie. Sony announced that they would produce a film focusing on the Marvel Comics anti-hero Venom last month which will star Tom Hardy in the title role. The production is helmed by director Ruben Fleischer who's aiming for an R rating with writers Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Recently it was confirmed that the main villain of the story is Carnage. Int eh comics Carnage is imbued with the same powerful alien symbiote which turns the selfish Eddie Brock into Venom, but the difference is, this one attaches itself to a serial killer named Cletus Kasady. Carnage debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #344 in 1991 and became a fan-favorite villain. He's much like Joker and other delusional bad guys who has a serious bloodlust.

There was some confusion initially, but now it seems that Spider-Man will not appear in the Sony Marvel Universe. Instead, these movies will be more adult-oriented, and won't follow the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It'll be interesting to see what other projects Sony produces featuring Spider-Man-related characters which they own the film rights to. The only other announced production is Silver & Black, but films about villains Mysterio and Kraven the Hunter have been rumored. Carnage has been wanted on screen for a while now so his inclusion is sure to please fans. Check out the tweet Monagahn responded to below.

The first film in Sony's Marvel Universe is directed by Ruben Fleischer, written by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, and stars Tom hardy as Eddie Crock a.k.a. Venom. The story will follow the origins of the anti-hero Eddie Brock showing us how he became fused with the alien symbiote which gives him powerful new abilities as Venom and his confrontations with the deadly villain Cletus Kasady also known as Carnage. The film is officially set for a theatrical release on October 5, 2018. Silver & Black is the other announced film set in the SMU with Gina Prince-Bythewood directing that project which will follow dangerous mercenary Silver Sable and skilled thief Black Cat. That movie has no set release date yet.
