Timothy Dalton Cast As Chief In Doom Patrol Streaming Series!

Genius. Visionary. Accomplished. Eccentric. Maybe a little insane. These words and phrases describe both the character of Dr. Niles Caulder a.k.a. The Chief and the casting of Timothy Dalton in the role. He's a is the wheelchair-bound scientist who traditionally leads the quirky band of heroes called the Doom Patrol. Having played both heroes and villains on screen and stage, Dalton should be well suited to the character, who has historically been a bit of both. According to The Chief’s Doom Patrol character description, Dr. Caulder is a pioneer in medical science, searching the world over for those on the edge of death in need of a miracle. The series is going to stream exclusively on the DC Universe streaming service. The characters will first appear in the fifth episode of Titans before spinning off into their own show.

It’s unknown whether the show will follow a similar path with the character, or keep him as a largely heroic figure. Either way, Dalton should be up for the task. Best known for his stint as James Bond in both The Living Daylights and License to Kill, Dalton has been a presence in film since the 1960s, where he made an impression in both The Lion in Winter and Wuthering Heights. Genre fans will probably know him best from his roles in cult faves Flash Gordon, The Rocketeer, and Hot Fuzz, and his appearance as a villainous Time Lord in Doctor Who opposite David Tennant. Doom Patrol is already shaping up to be as fascinating as its source material, even prior to production. Dalton is the latest in a string of high profile casting announcements that have piqued plenty of fan curiosity. Last week, Deadline announced that Alan Tudyk had been cast as Mr. Nobody, which followed the news that Brendan Fraser would be voicing Robotman as well as playing Cliff Steele, his pre-robot, human identity. Also recently cast were Joivan Wade as Cyborg, April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman, and Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane. Doom Patrol will be available exclusively on DC Universe, DC’s digital service which will be officially launching on September 15, 2018. You can sign up for the service at DCUniverse.com.
