Nightwing Movie Update From Director & Writer Chris McKay!

The future of DC Films is uncertain at the moment. However, one film that is certainly in active development is Nightwing, the movie about a grown up Robin from the director of The LEGO Batman Movie, Chris McKay. Recently, McKay gave fans an update on the film saying, "The update is: The first draft of the script is nearly done... but we are taking our time with this movie. It will be a long process. This movie will be different than LEGO Batman, different than any other Gotham based film or TV show and will be a wholly original look at Robin/Dick Grayson. Don’t lose hope. He’s a fascinating guy to me because he had all the same things happen to him. He’s got some of the same negatives as Bruce Wayne and then from a society standpoint - obviously, he was adopted into Bruce Wayne’s life - but he didn’t start that way. He’s this guy who has all these negatives and then even more negatives and yet he remains. Those are things why I like Dick Grayson, why I like the idea of Nightwing as a movie."

From these quotes it seems like the Nightwing movie is in good hands with McKay, but hopefully, we'll hear more about the project soon. It could be that we get casting news sooner than many might think. Arrow actor Colton Haynes recently tweeted "#Nightwing" with smiley faces which has caused some to speculate that he will be playing the character in the film, but he may have been hinting that Dick Grayson will show up in the DC TV universe on The CW. Haynes certainly has the physical capability to take on the role which McKay has said in the past would be very physically demanding as he wants to shoot the movie's action in camera with little use of CGI and preferably without too much use of stunt doubles. This is gonna be a gritty, grounded superhero movie which fits the character and his surroundings perfectly.

Since the failure of their most recent film Justice League, Warner Bros. seems to be shaking things up over at DC Entertainment, especially the film division. The DC movie universe has no scheduled slate of films, but we do know that Aquaman will be landing in theaters on December 21 later this year. Nightwing was scheduled for release on February 1, 2019, but after these comments it seems unlikely that they'll be making that release date. Next up is Shazam! which is officially slated for a theatrical run beginning on April 5, 2019. An untitled Jutice League sequel was on the schedule for June 15, 2019, but those plans have almost definitely been scrapped. Other projects in development include the Untitled Joker Origin Movie, Harley Quinn, Suicide Squad 2, The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, Deathstroke, Flashpoint, Batgirl, Lobo, Black Adam, Deadshot, Joker & Harley Quinn, Justice League Dark, Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps, Birds of Prey, Man of Steel 2, and the only guarantee, Wonder Woman 2.
