Disney Streaming Service To Include Scarlet Witch & Loki Marvel Series
The upcoming streaming service may include Loki and Scarlet Witch shows with original actors returning!
Loki & Scarlet Witch Marvel Series Coming To Disney Streaming Service!
According to reports from Variety, Disney is planning on launching two new Marvel TV series on their upcoming streaming service starring Loki and Scarlet Witch! They also say that original actors Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen will return to their famous roles in each of these shows. The plan is to create other series for popular Marvel characters who haven't starred in their own feature films. Both series will run for 6-8 episodes and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will be heavily involved as a producer. Marvel TV is run by Jeph Loeb, who reports to Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter, but it was creative friction with Perlmutter that bolstered Feige’s decision to reorganize his place in the company a few years ago. Feige now reports directly to Disney’s Alan Horn and has dissolved the problematic "creative committee" that stifled some of the studios' decisions in the past. Since then, fans have been treated to the bolder, more director-driven films like Thor: Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Black Panther.
This opens up lots of possibilities for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are currently ten series set in the MCU so far including ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, and Inhumans, Netflix series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders, Hulu's Runaways, and FreeForm's Cloak & Dagger. With Disney's streaming series it seems like they're going for shorter series with A-List actors reprising their roles from big-budget movies which would be a huge draw for fans of the films. This means characters like Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Bucky (Sebastian Stan), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) could get their own series. It's a great idea to explore these character further in smaller more intimate series and it'll be fun to see how it opens up the world of the MCU in the future.
Disney has stated that their streaming service will be cheaper than Netflix. Also, it will offer lots of original content as well as their vast library of films and series. They've already started production on the Lady and the Tramp remake starring Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux which will debut exclusively on the streaming service. Another film currently in production for the service is the Christmas comedy Noelle starring Bill Hader and Anna Kendrick. This new streaming service from the Mouse House is set to launch in 2019.
