James Bobin to Helm Dora the Explorer Movie!

The popular children's television series Dora the Explorer is getting a live-action movie adaptation for the big screen. Now, Deadline is reporting that The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, and Alice Through the Looking Glass director James Bobin will helm the film. The production also has a writer in Nick Stoller who penned Yes Man, Storks, Captain Underpants, as well as Bobin's two Muppet movies. Attached as producer is Transformers director Michael Bay which may give us an idea of what kind of movie this will be. However, it may not just be an action-driven explosion-fest with the more thoughtful director like Bobin at the helm and a comedic writer like Stoller working on the screenplay.

Dora the Explorer was created by Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh Valdes, and Eric Weiner in 2000. The series ran from 2000-2014 on Nickelodeon. The show follows a young girl who explores the world while teaching kids Spanish. It spawned multiple spin-off series including Go Diego Go and the sequel series Dora and Friends which ran from 2014-2017. The new live-action film from Paramount Pictures will be produced by Andrew Form and Brad Fuller and is rumored to follow the character as a teenager. The movie is set for a theatrical release on August 2, 2019.
