Erica Durance Cast In Supergirl Season Three
The Smallville actress will return to the DC Comics TV world!
Smallville's Lois Lane Cast In Next Season Of Supergirl!
Entertainment Weekly reports that actress Erica Durance has joined the cast of the third season of The CW's Supergirl! Durance will be taking over the role of Kara’s late mother, Alura, from Laura Benanti. As both Alura and her evil twin sister Astra, Benanti had a huge presence early in the show’s run with Astra being the main villain of season 1, but before her evil plans could come to fruition, Astra was killed off because of Benanti’s busy Broadway schedule. The actress did return for a brief appearance in an early season 2 episode, but hasn’t been seen since. Durance, who most recently starred on Saving Hope, joins other legacy Supergirl castings including Teri Hatcher, Helen Slater, Dean Cain, Lynda Carter, and fellow Smallville alum and former Supergirl herself, Laura Vandervoort.
Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says, “Unfortunately Laura, who Greg Berlanti and I have worked with for years going back to Eli Stone, was unable to continue in the role due to work commitments in New York. But we are so blessed that Erica has come aboard to offer her own interpretation of Kara’s mother. We had tremendous success with a former Lois Lane last season with Teri Hatcher. We know Erica will continue the proud tradition of legacy actors joining our shows and creating new and exciting takes on classic DC characters.”
Supergirl is created by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Ali Adler, the series stars Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Chris Wood, Calista Flockhart, and Floriana Lima. Before her planet Krypton exploded, Kara Zor-El was sent to Earth to protect her cousin Kal-El, but her pod was knocked off course and by the time she reached her destination her cousin had already grown up to become Superman, so now she protects her adopted homeworld as Supergirl. The series is set to return to The CW on Monday, October 9 at 8PM EST.
