Famke Janssen Done Playing Jean Grey In X-Men Movies
It looks like the actress has played the mutant for the last time!
Jean Grey Unlikely To Be Played By Famke Janssen Again
While attending Denver Comic Con this past weekend, actress Famke Janessen, best known for her role of Jean Grey in the X-Men movies was asked if she'd ever come back to play the part again. She told fans, “That was so amazing. I never knew - I don’t think any of us had any understanding of how popular our first movie was going to be and that it was gonna live on for 15 plus years. And then I certainly didn’t realize – I mean I knew Jean Grey could turn into Dark Phoenix, obviously, and that Phoenix rises from the ashes, but the fact that as Jean Grey or the Phoenix they’ve killed me, I’ve come back, I’m like a cockroach. They can’t get rid of me. It’s the gift that keeps on, kept on giving. I think we’re done, but it was really great while it lasted and it lasted for a long time. It's been nothing but a pleasure working not just as Jean Grey, which was such an honor because comics were so fantastic already, but then the entire cast who I got to play with, all my fellow actors, thespians who are so talented. It was just a wonderful experience. I’m very grateful.”
However, she also said during that same panel, that she'd "do anything" to step into the role of Jean Grey at any point in the forseeable future and said, "Jean Grey is a part of me. I would definitely come back to play her whenever they ask me." So, it seems like she is open to the idea of starring as the character again, but doesn't think it's likely since the casting of Sophie Turner in the role of a younger Jean Grey which she played in last year's X-Men: Apocalypse and will play again in the upcoming Dark Phoenix movie. Janssen took on the role in 2000's X-Men directed by Bryan Singer, and it's sequels X2: X-Men United in 2003, and X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006. She then played the part again in 2013's The Wolverine and for the last time in X-Men: Days of Future Past which was released in 2014. That makes for five films as the mutant and a great arc for the character.
The next X-men film is titled X-Men: Dark Phoenix which is written and directed by Simon Kinberg and stars Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jessica Chastain. When Jean Grey is taken over by the malevolent, cosmic Phoenix Force an alien empire takes it upon themselves to destroy her before she can annihilate the entire universe, and it's up to her fellow X-Men to stop them from killing her, but they may be forced to stop their teammate themselves. The movie opens in theaters on November 2, 2018.
