Today, on Twitter, director/writer Patty Jenkins revealed our first look at actress Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva in the upcoming Wonder Woman sequel. The film takes place in the year 1984 and will follow the Amazonian warrior princess as she faces new challenges and a deadly new enemy. That villain is Barbara Minerva, who in the comics transforms herself into the ferocious Cheetah through a catastrophic scientific experiment. She's the arch nemesis of the heroine in the source material and was created by WW's creator William Moulton Marsten first appearing in Wonder Woman #6 in October of 1943. Gal Gadot is coming back as Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman, and Chris Pine is also somehow returning as Steve Trevor. The film will be in theaters on
Wonder Woman 1984 is directed by Patty Kenkins, written by Jenkins, Geoff Johns, and David Callahan from a story by Jenkins and Johns. The film stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, and Pedro Pascal in an undisclosed role. Cinematography is by Matthew Jenson and editing is by Richard Pearson. During the Cold War, Wonder Woman must help American spies uncover a secret Russian project which could turn the world upside down. The film has a release date set for November 1, 2019.
