Disney's The Lion King Live-Action Remake Reveals Full Cast!
Disney has announced the full cast of their upcoming remake of the 1994 hit animated film The Lion King. This new film will be made the same way last year's The Jungle Book remake was made using brand-new technology to bring these animals to life. Jon Favreau, who helmed The Jungle Book, is directing this new film as well. The cast includes Donald Glover as adult Simba, Beyonce as adult Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfree Woodard as Sarabi, John Oliver as Zazu, John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Eric Andre as Azizi, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari, J.D. McCrary as young Simba, and Shahadi Wright Joseph as young Nala. Hans Zimmer is also returning to compose the musical score. Disney began remaking their classic animated films back in the 1990s with The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians. They started doing it again to greater success in 2010 with Tim Burton's huge hit Alice in Wonderland. Since then they've made a sequel to that film, an adaptation of Sleeping Beauty titled Maleficent which focuses on the villain, as well as Cinderella, Pete's Dragon, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast. They also are remaking Dumbo, Aladdin, Mulan, Peter Pan, The Sword in the Stone, and more.
Disney's The Lion King is directed by Jon Favreau, written by and stars Donald Glover, Beyonce Knowles-Carter, James Earl Jones, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfree Woodard, John Oliver, John Kani, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Eric Andre, Florence Kasumba, Keegan-Michael Key, J.D. McCrary, and Shahadi Wright Joseph. From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new The Lion King journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy, and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. Utilizing pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way, The Lion King roars into theaters on July 19, 2019.
