The next G.I. Joe movie has a title and potential star!
G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant Is Title Of New Movie! The Rock Could Come Back!
According to That Hashtag Show, the title of the upcoming third entry in the G.I. Joe live-action film franchise is G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant. They also claim that Dwayne " the Rock" Johnson has been offered the starring role in the film. He lead the second installment of the series, G.I. Joe: Retaliation in 2013. Whether or not he'll return as Roadblock probably depends on how he likes the script and whichever director they end up choosing for the project. This movie will likely serve as the lead-in for Paramount and Hasbro's Allspark Pictures shared universe which may include Micronauts, M.A.S.K., and ROM. Now there's also the possibility of bringing the Transformers (the studio's most profitable film series) and Power Rangers into this franchise since Hasbro recently purchased the mighty morphin' teens from Saban. If so, this could be a rich, sprawling cinematic universe to rival that of Marvel's own dominate franchise.
The story for the film is being developed by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec who both worked on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol. The plot is said to feature Roadblock recruiting a new team of Joe's to stop a group of terrorists from obtaining a weapon of mass destruction which uses dark matter to disintegrate their targets anywhere, at anytime. No director has signed on yet. The Mummy director Stephen Sommers directed G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra which hit theaters in 2009 and starred Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans, while Jon M. Chu helmed the more recent second installment of the franchise featuring The Rock alongside Adrianne Palicki and Bruce Willis. The upcoming third film has set a release date for March 27, 2020.
