Recently, Entertainment Weekly revealed some new images from the upcoming movie Glass! This film is a sequel to both 2000's Unbreakable and 2016's Split. All of the films are written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and star Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, and Samuel L. Jackson. While Unbreakable focused on Wills' character David Dunn and the discovery of his superhuman abilities, and Split focused on Kevin Wendell Crumb, played by McAvoy, dealing with his own unique powers and multiple personality disorder, Glass will focus on Sam Jackson's megalomaniac mastermind Elijah Prince a.k.a. Mr. Glass. We still don't know exactly how or why, but all three main characters wind up together in a mental institution in Glass, as we see in the image above Elijah, Crumb, and Dunn (Bruce Willis) share their feelings with a specialist shrink.
Sarah Paulson will play a the psychiatrist who is given the unenviable task of treating our trio of super-powered leads. “She deals with people that think they’re comic-book characters,” Shyamalan said of the new character. “It’s kind of the modern-day equivalent of ‘I think I’m Jesus’ or ‘I’m an emperor.’” She's sure to play an important role in the movie and seems to be the key to bringing these characters together, and perhaps even bring them peace. Hopefully, things will end up better for her than they did for Crumb's last psychiatrist.
James McAvoy will reprise his acclaimed role as Kevin Wendell Crumb, a.k.a. The Beast or The Horde. The highly unstable villain is pictured here with the girl that got away, Anya Taylor-Joy's Casey. McAvoy reveals that we'll "get to spend some time with some new people that live inside Kevin” in the film. So, does that mean that Casey is just a figment of his imagination? Or is she actually there? She did survive their first encounter, but will she survive another? We'll find out when we see the movie.
Bruce Willis is back after his major role in Unbreakable and his cameo at the end of Split. Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan surprised us all when it was revealed that Split was actually set in the same world as Unbreakable thus setting up his own thrilling cinematic comic book universe. Willis' character had seemed to accept his destiny and become a hero, so it'll be interesting to see how he winds up in a mental institution alongside his arch-nemesis and a new enemy. Spencer Treat Clark will return as his son in the movie which will shed some light on what's happen to him in the past nineteen years.
Back in his signature purple suit is Samuel L. Jackson as the eponymous Mr. Glass in this photo. At the end of Unbreakable, Elijah Price was sent away for a very long time after murdering countless people in an attempt to draw out the yang to his yin, which turned out to be Bruce Willis' indestructible protagonist. Returning as his mother is actress Charlayne Woodard who will probably play a major role in his character arc again. Glass arrives in theaters on January 18, 2019.
