The Greatest American Hero casts it's star!
The New Greatest American Hero Is Hannah Simone!
Hannah Simone is set to play the lead role in the upcoming reboot of The Greatest American Hero for ABC, according to Deadline. Simone has played the role of CeCe in the TV series New Girl for the last six seasons and will return for the seventh and final season in April. Simone is also known for the film Band Aid and for hosting Fox’s reality series Kicking & Screaming. This half-hour, single-camera comedy will feature Meera (Simone), an Indian-American woman, as the lead. The reboot comes to us from Fresh Off the Boat writer/producer Rachna Fruchbom and Nahnatchka Khan’s Fierce Baby. 20th Century Fox TV will co-produce with ABC Studios. Fruchbom will write the script. She’ll produce with Mandy Summers from Fierce Baby as well as the original show producer Steven J. Cannell’s daughter, television director Tawnia McKiernan.
Meera is an 30-year-old Indian-American woman from Cleveland who spends her time drinking tequila and singing karaoke. Then some aliens give her a super suit to help her protect the world, despite her lack of qualifications. Based on the ABC-TV series which ran from 1980 to 1983, The Greatest American Hero follows a nebbishy teacher who becomes a reluctant superhero after extraterrestrials give him a special suit with powers he can barely understand or control when he loses its instruction manual. The original stars William Katt, Robert Culp and Connie Sellecca. The end of the original series featured the lead character finding a suitable replacement to wear the suit, and he chose a woman.
