Most know Ritchson as Aquaman on Smallville where he appeared in multiple episodes, in The Hunger Games : Catching Fire as Gloss, or as Raphael in the 2014 live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and it's sequel Out of the Shadows. Kelly played a major role in Friday Night Lights, as well as the short-lived series Almost Human and various other small film roles. Ritchson will play Hank Hall and Kelly will play Dawn Granger in the series, two heroes united by similar abilities, yet with opposing ideologies.
Hawk and Dove were created by Steve Ditko and Steve Skeates debuting in Showcase #75 in June 1968. In the original comics Hank and Don Hall were brothers who represented the central concept of the emerging political divides of the 1960s, war hawks and war doves. The two young heroes have contrasting personalities and diametrically opposed ideologies, and by speaking their super-heroic aliases, they're transformed and granted power sets of heightened strength, speed, and agility. Dove represents reason and nonviolence and Hawk represents force and aggression, they complement one another and find a state of balance in order to effectively combat evil. Later, Don was replaced with an unrelated female counterpart, Dawn, who's introduction, revealed that Hawk and Dove receive their powers from the Lords of Chaos and Order, and that their powers are mystic in origin.
