Lucasfilm Sets 2021 Debut For Indiana Jones 5!

Today, Disney, Lucasfilm, and the filmmakers behind-the-scenes have decided to push the release date of the next Indiana Jones film back another year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will now debut on July 9, 2021. Initially, the fifth Indiana Jones film was supposed to begin production in April 2019 in the United Kingdom for release into theaters on July 10, 2020. However, sources recently revealed that the movie wouldn't be able to make that schedule work, so the entire release has now been delayed. The upcoming fifth film in the franchise has been in the works for some time, with Steven Spielberg returning to the director's chair and Harrison Ford back in the title role. Last month, the movie went through a major change recently when Jonathan Kasdan, son of Raiders of the Lost Ark writer Lawrence Kasdan and writer of Solo: A Star Wars Story, was hired on to pen a new version of the Indiana Jones 5 script. Kasdan replaced writer David Koepp, who wrote Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, War of the Worlds, and the previous film in the series, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The upcoming Indiana Jones movie will likely be Ford's final time portraying the character and Spielberg's last effort in the franchise he created alongside George Lucas. Most seem to think this film will feature Dr. Henry Jones Jr. passing-the-torch to another younger actor who will take over the series as Lucasfilm and Disney will want to keep it's second most profitable franchise going for a while. The four Indiana Jones films including Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull have inspired generations of movie makers for over three decades now. Overall the franchise has made over $1.9 billion at the worldwide box office.
