James Cameron Talks Terminator Origin Movie
New info on the Terminator reboot trilogy!
New Terminator Film To Reveal Origins Of the T-800!
Creator of the Terminator franchise, writer, director, and producer James Cameron is involved in bringing the series back to it's former glory as none of the movies since 1991's Terminator 2: Judgement Day have been able to. In a question asked by TheArnoldFans during a live Q&A, Cameron revealed what could be a key component of the new movie. According to him the film will reveal the origins of the titular T-800 cyborg from the future and why the killing machine looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is interesting since a deleted scene from 2003's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines gave an answer to this question.
Cameron said, “You got to ask yourself, ‘Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold? There has to be a reason. So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype. There has to have been a guy who’s DNA was harvested from – that they grew the organic outter layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumibly was a real person at some point. Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose that one (Arnold)? Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement center and all the others looked different? I’ve asked myself these questions but it’s never been resolved…so stay tuned! We’re talking pretty seriously now about doing some new Terminator films or possibly a trilogy and you’ll just have to see what surfaces in those.”
Cameron seems to be either completely unaware or dismissive of the scene in T3. You can watch the infamous Sergeant Candy scene above. Schwarzenegger recently gave an update on the new movie, revealing to Kleine Zeitung (via The Playlist) that he will begin shooting it in March of 2018. Cameron, who will regain the Terminator rights in 2019, is reportedly “godfathering” the new film series which has Deadpool director Tim Miller and David Ellison of Skydance teaming up behind-the-camera. Miller is set to direct the feature, since Cameron will be directing his four Avatar sequels, the first of which is set to be released in 2020.
