Jared Leto's Joker To Get His Own Movie
The Suicide Squad actor will portray The Clown Prince of crime again!
Standalone Joker Movie Starring Jared Leto In Development!
According to Variety, Jared Leto is set to put on the makeup again to play The Joker in his own movie! Leto would star in and executive produce this untitled solo film which would focus on the infamous Batman villain. Plot details are under wraps, but the studio is looking to expand on the world created in Suicide Squad with new films tied into future installments of the property. Leto and the studio are searching for a writer, and its currently unclear if the Joker movie would go into production before writer/director Gavin O'Conner's Suicide Squad 2. Warners has been developing multiple tie-in films since Suicide Squad hit theaters, including Suicide Squad 2, a Harley Quinn/Joker team-up movie, and Gotham City Sirens, though it’s unclear what’s happening with the latter two. WB and DC are also on track for their previously announced plan to launch a Birds of Prey movie starring Margot Robbie.
The studio is still developing a separate standalone Joker film from The Hangover’s Todd Philipps, which will explore the characters origins and is planned as part of a new banner separate from the current on-screen shared DC Universe. Joaquin Phoenix is reportedly in talks star as the iconic comic book villain in that incarnation, but the studio has always been clear that those plans didn’t signal the end for Leto’s Joker. As for the rest of the DC Universe, Warner Bros. currently has three upcoming DC movies dated including James Wan‘s Aquaman on December 21, followed by David F. Sandberg‘s Shazam! on April 5, 2019, and Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman sequel on November 1, 2019.
