Upcoming Joker Film To Be Released In October 2019!

Breaking news coming ahead of Comic-Con this weekend from Warner Bros. as they announce the title and release date of their upcoming stand alone Joker movie! The new film, set to be directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime, is officially titled Joker and will arrive in theaters on October 4, 2019. The simple title and Halloween release date is perfect for this $50 million film based on Batman's arch-enemy. With the celebration yesterday of the 10th anniversary of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, which featured a stellar performance by Heath Ledger in the role, this announcement comes at a welcome time. This film is said to be a gritty crime drama which will dive into the psychology of the Joker as we discover what turned him into the nefarious criminal we all know so well.

Many actors have played this role over the years with Jared Leto being the most recent to inhabit the role in 2016's Suicide Squad. Leto will reprise the role again in an upcoming film which is part of the DC Extended Universe, unlike Joaquin Phoenix's movie which is not connected to the previous DCEU films. Australian actor Heath Ledger got the role in Nolan's 2008 film which won him a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Star Wars actor Mark Hamill provided the voice of the character in the 90s animated series, as well as many other TV series and animated films. Academy Award-winner Jack Nicholson portrayed the character in 1989's Batman film from Tim Burton starring Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader. Caesar Romaro was the first to play the part in live-action alongside Adam West's Batman in the 1960s TV series.

The Joker was created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson in the debut issue of Batman on April 25, 1940. Although he was going to be killed off in the initial issue, editorial decisions kept him alive to become The Dark Knight's greatest adversary. He's a criminal mastermind with a sadistic sense of humor. The character has appeared in multiple animated series and movies, as well as video games. Some of these include Super Friends, Justice League, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Young Justice, Batman: Under the Red Hood, Batman: Assault on Arkham, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: The Killing Joke, The LEGO Batman Movie, Batman: Arkham City, and Injustice.
