John Cena Cast In Transformers: Bumblebee; Plot & Release Date Revealed
The wrestler-turned-actor has been cast in a Transformers spin-off!
Bumblebee Movie Gets Star, Plot, & Release Date!
Today, Paramount Pictures and Hasbro announced that the upcoming Transformers spin-off movie about Bumblebee will star John Cena in the lead role. The film’s shoot will take place entirely in the state of California. The movie is set to open on December 21, 2018 which is the same weekend DC Films’ Aquaman will debut with Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns opening four days later on December 25, 2018. This is the first film in the expanding Transformers Universe and is set to begin production this month. The plot synopsis reads as follows: On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
Transformers Universe: Bumblebee is directed by Travis Knight who recently helmed the stop-motion film Kubo and the Two Strings, written by Christina Hodson, and stars Hailee Steinfeld, Pamela Adlon, John Cena, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, and Grace Dzienny. The film is produced by Transformers franchise veterans Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay, along with executive producers Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. Chris Brigham (Argo, Inception) will also executive produce. The screenplay is written by Christina Hodson (Unforgettable). Bumblebee will be released in the U.S. on December 21, 2018.
