Star Wars: Episode IX Adds Keri Russell To Cast!
According to Variety, actress Keri Rusell has been cast in the next Star Wars film! She will join Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega in the sequel which will bring the sequel trilogy to an end. Director/writer/producer J.J. Abrams began this new series of films in the popular space fantasy franchise in 2015 with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and it continued in Rian Jonson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi which was released in late 2017. Abrams and Russell have worked together many times since he cast her in her first major role in the TV series Felicity and later alongside Tom Cruise in Abrams' feature film debut, 2006's Mission: Impossible III. The casting report claims that "The role calls for action-heavy fight scenes," which fits right into Russell's wheelhouse since her roles on The Americans and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes have cemented her action star credentials.
Earlier today, a report came out suggesting that Episode IX will likely be finding its way to familiar locations like Yavin 4. Abrams and his writing partner Chris Terrio have spent most of the past year working on the script for this final film in the ongoing Skywalker saga. They reportedly pitched the story for the film on December 16, 2017, the exact release date of The Last Jedi into theaters. The divisive fan community is looking for unification on Episode IX, so the pressure is on Lucasfilm to deliver on this one. Rumors of Kathleen Kennedy's departure as President of Lucasfilm have been swirling lately, but no official word has come on that front. She was hand-picked by George Lucas to take his position after he sold his production company to Disney in 2012. We know that there is always hope for the future, just check out that first teaser for The Force Awakens below if you wanna get excited for another new Star Wars movie.
