The Equalizer 2 Writer Joins Kraven the Hunter Film!
Collider.com is reporting that Sony Pictures has hired screenwriter Richard Wenk, hot off the success of The Equalizer 2, to pen the script for their upcoming Spider-Man spin-off Kraven the Hunter. Last year Sony announced that they would be developing multiple films based on Spider-Man characters like Silver Sable, Black Cat, Mysterio, and Venom among others. The first film in pruction is Venom which will be released in October. Next is Silver & Black which has Gina Prince-Bythewood in the directors chair set for a production start date in early 2019. Mysterio is rumored to be the main villain in the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel Far From Home, so his film will most likely not happen. Kraven has been rumored for a while now and whether or not it actually happens is probably dependent on how successful Venom is at the box office later this year.
Kraven the Hunter was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and made his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 in August of 1964. A Russian immigrant, Sergei Kravenoff is a maniacal big game hunter who begins hunting down Spider-Man after discovering his superhuman abilities. The character has appeared in multiple video games and animated series such as Spider-Man and the His Amazing Friends, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and The Spectacular Spider-Man, but never in live action. Director Marc Webb confirmed he included Kraven's spear at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and would have cast him in Sinister Six and The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Black Panther director Ryan Coogler also stated he wanted Kraven in his 2018 film or a sequel, and both actor Tom Holland and director Jon Watts want the character to show up in a future Spider-Man film.
