Lady and the Tramp Announced As Disney's Next Live-Action Remake
The animated classic is getting a new movie remake!
Disney's New Live-Action remake Is Lady and the Tramp!
Director Charlie Bean, who recently helmed The LEGO Ninjago Movie, has been hired by Disney to helm their live-action reimagining of Lady and the Tramp. However, this film will not be going to theaters, instead the movie will debut on Disney's exclusive streaming service which will launch in 2019. Indie filmmaker Andrew Bujalski (Computer Chess, Results) penned the script for the redo, and Brigham Taylor (The Jungle Book) is producing. Before being tasked with helming Warner Bros.’ LEGO spin-off, Bean was a mainstay in animation on shows like Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Tron: Uprising. The previously announced The Sword in the Stone remake will also debut on the streaming service which is also where we'll be able to see Jon Favreau's upcoming Star Wars live-action series.
Disney has had much success with their live-action remakes lately. From 2010's Alice in Wonderland to Beauty and the Beast last year, the studio has remade some of their most beloved animated films and they've been well-received by audiences and critics. Currently in development are new retellings of Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, Peter Pan and Mulan. The studio also still has plans to remake Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Black Hole, Cruella, The Haunted Mansion, James and the Giant Peach, The Little Mermaid, Robin Hood, and Pinocchio. The only ones with confirmed release dates are Dumbo set for theatrical release on March 29, 2019, Aladdin on May 24, 2019, The Lion King on July 19, 2019, Peter Pan on November 8, 2019, and Mulan on March 27, 2020. Lady and the Tramp has been released from the Disney vault and is now available on Blu-ray.
