Lethal Weapon 5 Now In The Works
A new movie in the action franchise might get made!
New Lethal Weapon Movie Could Happen Soon!
Deadline reports that a fifth Lethal Weapon film is in development! Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, and Richard Donner “are all huddling on the possibility of doing another film for the the Lethal Weapon franchise" with Lethal Weapon 4 writer Channing Gibson penning the screenplay. There are no details yet, but even if this somehow received a green light from Warner Bros. tomorrow and was in theaters next year, Gibson would be 62 and Glover would be 72. Donner, who hasn’t directed a feature since 2006’s 16 Blocks, would be 88. This franchise is built on the idea that these cops are too old for this sh*t, so it actually fits perfectly. It'd be fun to see them back as long as the story makes sense and is worth telling with these characters one last time.
The Lethal Weapon franchise began with a script by Shane Black who envisioned an urban western about a grizzled, family-man cop on the brink of retirement teaming up with a skilled, loose-canon rookie. Richard Donner directed all four films in the franchise and every one of them starred Mel Gibson in his first major American film series and Danny Glover. Other cast members include Joe Pesci, Darlene Love, Traci Wolfe, Damon Hines, Ebonie Smith, Steve Kahan, Mary Ellen Trainor, Mitchell Ryan, Gary Busey, Tom Atkins, Joss Ackland, Derrick O'Conner, Patsy Kensit, Jack McGee, Rene Russo, Stuart Wilson, Chris Rock, Jet Li, Kim Chan, and Calvin Chung. The movies have grossed $955 million worldwide.
