Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War Movie Review
Here's our review of the latest Avengers film from Marvel Studios!
Review of Avengers: Infinity War!
Over the course of the past ten years, Marvel Studios has brought us the biggest and best movie franchise of all time. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is made up of a vast array of characters audiences have come to care about. Each film brings something new and different to this shared universe while continuing the story of the past films. These movies are all events, but none are more eventful than this culmination of the past decade of Marvel filmmaking. Read on for our full spoiler-free review of the film.
This film is by far the most challenging Marvel Studios has made yet. It's a true epic which spans the cosmos and includes every major character in this vast universe. The Russo brothers do an amazing job balancing the film's complex tone and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely aptly handle the characters giving each of them moments to shine while telling an emotional, action-packed, and meaningful story. Parts of it remind me of The Lord of the Rings trilogy with it's long journey and epic battles all crammed into one film. It doesn't feel overstuffed, though, and instead has a room to breathe and a natural flow.
I am Groot.
The actors do a fantastic job performing some of the most powerful and complicated scenes of their careers. It's so much fun to see these characters interact as we find Thor talking to Rocket, Iron Man bantering with Star-Lord, and Doctor Strange meeting Spider-Man. Each pairing works so well, and whether they're conversing or fighting it's a joy to behold. However, what every Marvel fan has been waiting for is Josh Brolin's portrayal of Thanos. Fortunately, his incomparable performance does not disappoint. Ultimately, this is his movie and he delivers the best villain in the MCU because we understand his twisted worldview and even feel for him.
Every action sequence is thrilling in this film. The visual effects team have outdone themselves here. There are multiple characters brought to life via performance capture and each of them looks astonishingly realistic. You get to see every emotion and movement of each actor who brought them to life. The film also has maybe the most moving score ever composed for an MCU movie. These beautiful costumes also help bring the world to life and speak to where each of the characters are on their individual journeys. The editing is proficient and moves the story along nicely without spending too much time in any one place, yet not cutting anything too short either.
I hope they remember you.
Never before has a film franchise built towards something for so long and managed to pulled it off so well. President of Marvel Studios and producer Kevin Feige is a mastermind, the Russos are geniuses, and the audience gets to reap the rewards. If you've invested in these characters and this world you won't be disappointed in this finale. It's a marvelous, unexpected motion picture full of shocking moments, profound performances, and real meaning. I'm still in awe. The nineteenth Marvel movie is one that will be remembered forever. I give Avengers: Infinity War a 10 out of 10.
