Ulysses Klaue Talks With Agent Everett K. Ross

The first scene in the trailer features Andy Serkis' mercenary Ulysses Klaue being interrogated by C.I.A. Agent Everette K. Ross played by Martin Freeman. Klaue asks, "Tell me something, what do you know about Wakanda?" When Agent Ross says that it's a third world country with textiles, shepherds, and cool outfits, Klaue tells him that that's all a front, and in fact the African nation is really the fabled land of El Dorado explorers have searched for for centuries in South America. He then claims he's the only one who's been there and made it out alive.

This entire conversation is cut over other footage from the film such as a glimpse at the huge waterfalls of Wakanda. The image above depicts what appears to be a ritual of some kind involving T'Challa who's dropped off in a jet and left with people in tribal garb on a mountainous waterfall. This may be the same scene we see later of him battling someone who appears to be Erik Killmonger. The two may be fighting for the mantle of Black Panther, and we know who won that title. So, it could be that Killmonger's jealousy drives him to go to war against the King of Wakanda. Also, we see the Black Panther attacking a group of mercenaries or African soldiers at night.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly director Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained of Black Panther's powers. Feige states, “People who read the comics would be familiar with the Heart-Shaped Herb and the ceremonies that surround that. That’s partially spiritual. We certainly don’t call it magic, but there’s Vibranium that has been interwoven within that soil and that land for thousands of years, so there are other things going on with it." Coogler says, "The Heart-Shaped Herb is how Black Panther achieves his powers. He can fight hand-to-hand with Cap, who’s a supersoldier, so he has super strength and heightened instincts that give him his enhanced abilities. The Heart-Shaped Herb is what Black Panthers over the generations would consume, once they earn the title, which gives them their physical edge.”
