A Spin-Off Men In Black Movie Is Coming Soon!

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures is currently fast-tracking a Men in Black spin-off movie, with a release date of May 17, 2019. In addition to the quick release date, the studio also has a script for the new film, penned by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, the writers of Iron Man and Transformers: The Last Knight. It seems as though this will be an action-driven film but hopefully it will also blend in a meaningful story and enjoyable characters. Expect an announcement regarding the director for the project very soon. Producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, and executive producer Steven Spielberg, are expected to return for this spin-off. The report states that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not come back to the franchise, but that the film will acknowledge the world their characters built.

The Men In Black was created and written by Lowell Cunningham and illustrated by Sandy Carruthers in Aircel Comics in 1990. The comic book series follows a secret government organization which protects life on Earth from alien threats. A film trilogy was made based on the comics starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in 1997, 2002, and 2012 with all three films being directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. The movies were well-received by critics and audiences alike and grossed a combined total of $1.65 billion worldwide. The new film is set to begin production in early 2018 for release into theaters on May 17, 2019.
