See This First Look At The Upcoming Aquaman Movie!

Thanks to the reveal of a brand new set of EW covers we have a new look at the upcoming DC Films Aquaman movie! Fans should expect to see Atlanteans riding great white sharks, giant octopi, seven different underwater kingdoms, The Trench, and even some sea dragons! Director James Wan reveals in an interview, "The water world my movie takes place in is so separate and so far apart from previous DC movies it’s like I’m making my own sci-fi fantasy film. This is a whole new underwater world nobody has seen before in live action." It's clearly going to be something special then and these covers are a very good start. On the cover above we see Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry a.k.a. Aquaman alongside Amber Heard's Mera. Also in the background we find our first look at Nicole Kidman as Aquaman's mother, Queen Atlanna! Executive Producer Peter Safran also says of the movie's star, “Rarely has a superhero character been married to the real-life actor as much as Aquaman and Jason Momoa. He’s authentically from two worlds, he’s this real physical specimen, he’s got this humor which he’s never been allowed to play before — in every regard he is Aquaman.”

Wan says of the villain seen below played by actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, “He’s part mercenary but full-time pirate who in his suit will look like some crazy alien from outer space… Black Manta is a really interesting character who is somehow factored into this story but our main story is about Jason and Patrick.”  The helmet looks exactly like it does in the comics and it'll be interesting to see how they bring the character to life on the big screen as we know they've changed the character's name (originally David Hyde) to David Kane. The other (main) villain whom you can see below is Patrick Wilson's Prince Orm a.k.a. Ocean Master who's Aquaman's half-brother. Orm is hell-bent on taking over the throne of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis and declaring war on the surface world. This is played out in the Throne of Atlantis comics which was also adapted into an animated movie.

In this last image we see a behind-the-scenes shot of director James Wan working with Amber Heard and Jason Momoa on set with Willem Dafoe as the wise mentor to our hero, Vulko. The veteran actor was set to appear as the Atlantean character in Justice League but his scene was cut. He's sporting a cool underwater suit of some kind and a very unique hairstyle which looks very similar to Patrick Wilson's do he's sporting as Prince Orm. The film is directed by James Wan, written by Wan, Will Beall, and Goeff Johns, and produced by Peter Safran, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg, and Johns serving as executive producers. Rupert Gregson-Williams, who also scored Wonder Woman, will compose the music, and the movie stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Willem Dafoe, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman. Aquaman is in theaters on December 21!
