Sony Making Spider-Man Spin-Off Silver & Black Two Separate Films
The upcoming Spider-Man spin-off team-up is now two individual movies!
Silver Sable & Black Cat Movie Is Now Two Movies!
Sony Pictures is reportedly scrapping their Silver and Black movie from filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood in favor of solo Silver Sable and Black Cat films. The Spider-Man characters' film rights are tired up with Sony, and though they've launched a couple film series based on Spider-Man, they're now looking to the Web-Slinger's related characters for a new franchise. Kicking off with Ruben Fleischer's Venom later this year, starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, the studio has a number of projects in various stages of development focused on Marvel characters including Kraven the Hunter, Morbius the Living Vampire, Silk, Jackpot, and Sinister Six.
Back in early 2017, the studio was planning on teaming-up mercenary Silver Sable and professional thief Black Cat in a movie being written by Prince-Bythewood, who was also expected to direct. Sony slated Silver and Black for a February 2019 release date, but Prince-Bythewood recently announced that she was reworking the script. Now the latest report indicates the project has been taken in an entirely new direction, with the characters set to lead solo films instead. Variety reported a status update on Sony's entire upcoming Marvel franchise, starting with Venom and expanding to include the likes of Morbius the Living Vampire and Kraven the Hunter. Silver and Black is confirmed to have already been scrapped in favor of Silver Sable and Black Cat stand-alone movies, with Felicia Hardy's Black Cat the first of the two to receive a standalone outing. It's unknown if Prince-Bythewood will stay on board both projects as writer and director, or only as a producer. Venom arrives in theaters on October 5.
