Logan Director To Helm Boba Fett Film!

Logan Director To Helm Boba Fett Film!

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that writer and director James Mangold will helm a Boba Fett movie for Lucasfilm. Mangold has written and directed many great films over the past decade including Walk the Line, the 3:10 to Yuma remake, The Wolverine, and last year's hit Logan. His western sensibilities and focus on character fit the mysterious, deadly character perfectly. Rumors of a Boba Fett movie has been making the rounds for years — word is, Josh Trank’s standalone movie was meant to be the Fett film, which would follow Rogue One as the next Star Wars Story, but after he was fired from the project, Solo leapfrogged ahead on the schedule. Most recently, it was rumored that X-Men writer-producer and Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg was working on the Fett movie, but it seems he is no longer involved. It's unknown when the film will be released, but if rumors of  an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie are true it will likely arrive after that film hits theaters in 2020, putting Fett in 2021.

It's unknown who they will cast in the role but it'd be great to see Daniel Logan back int he role after he took on the part of a young Boba in 2002's Epsiode II: Attack of the Clones. Jeremy Bulloch played the part in Episode VI: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in 1980 and 1983. A new actor may be hired, but depending on when they set the film in the Star Wars timeline, the 30-year-old Logan could be the perfect age now for a film set between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. Logan still appears at fan events, conventions, and Star Wars Celebration to support the character and this universe he has great admiration for. The film could be set after the character falls into the Sarlacc Pit to his apparent doom following him on mission of revenge, but that seems unlikely and like too much of a retcon. Watching a younger Fett interact with other bounty hunters as they compete, hunting down a common target would be most fun and give it that western feel in the same vein as The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly or Once Upon A Time In The West. No story details are available yet.
