The Death of Superman & Reign of the Supermen Get Theatrical Release
The DC animated films are coming to the theaters for a special two-night event!
DC Animation & Fathom Events Team Up For Superman Double Feature!
Warner Bros. announced today, via ComicBook.com, that they are teaming with Fathom Events to bring audiences a double feature of two of their animated DC Comics movies! The films The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen will make a two-night exclusive theatrical run early next year on January 13th at 12:55PM and January 14th at 8:00PM in select theaters. Both movies will be screened on both nights as a double feature running a total of 2 hours and 45 minutes. The studio did something similar for the releases of the DC animated film Batman: The Killing Joke which arrived in theaters on July 25, 2016 and then on Blu-ray on August 2.
The Death of Superman is based on the DC Comics storyline from the 1990s in which Superman faces off against his deadliest foe yet: the unstoppable monster known as Doomsday. The film was released on July 24, 2018, and has a runtime of 1 hour and 21 minutes. The movie is directed by Sam Liu, is written by Peter J. Tomasi, and stars Jerry O'Connell, Rebecca Romjin, Rainn Wilson, Rosario Dawson, Nathan Fillion, Christopher Gorham, Matt Lanter, Shemar Moore, Nyambi Nyambi, and Jason O' Mara. The film is now available to purchase on Blu-ray.
Reign of the Supermen is based on the DC Comics storyline from the 1990s which follows four Supermen, including The Eradicator, Cyborg Superman, Steel, and Superboy who rise to fill the void left by Superman. The film has a runtime of 1 hour and 24 minutes. The movie will be released on Blu-ray on January 15, 2019. The movie is directed by Sam Liu and written by James Krieg and Tim Sheridan, and the cast includes Rebecca Romjin, Patrick Fabian, Cress Williams, Cameron Monaghan, Charles Halford, Brenda Strong, and Tony Todd. It will be available to purchase on Blu-ray on January 15, 2019.
The DC Animated Movie Universe has been going on since 2013 with the release of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. It's a shared universe of interconnected films which crossover with each other and present the audiences with individual stories telling an overall narrative. Reign of the Supermen is the first direct sequel in the DCAMU, so far. It will also be the 33rd DC Animated Original Movie which have been released straight to DVD since 2007 with the release of Superman: Doomsday.
