The Lord of the Rings Director Might Helm DC Film!
According to TheOneRing.net, director of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, Peter Jackson is in negotiations with Warner Bros to helm a DC Comics adaptation. Currently, he's debating whether or not to direct the upcoming Middle Earth-based series for Amazon, a sequel to Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin which Jackson produced, or the DC superhero movie. His friend and collaborator, the aforementioned Spielberg, was recently announced to take on the World War II-era action/adventure property Blackhawk for DC and WB, so it could be fun to see the two working in the same space. Jackson has not directed a feature film since the final film in the Hobbit trilogy, The Battle of the Five Armies, in 2014. He produced and wrote Mortal Engines which will arrive in theaters in December.
It's anyone's guess which DC Comics character or characters Jackson might adapt to the big screen, but it'll most likely be a new property. Since they're going into the Fourth World with Ava Duvernay's New Gods, an epic set in space would certainly suit his sensibilities. The studio now has James Wan's Aquaman starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard deep in post-production with a release date set for December 21. Meanwhile, David F. Sandberg is shooting Shazam! with Zachary Levi in the title role, as Wonder Woman 2 is in pre-production with Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot returning as director and star, and the Batman script is still being written by director Matt Reeves. Supposedly, Warner Bros. and DC are also developing many more movies including Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps, Lobo, The Flash, Deadshot, Gotham City Sirens, Deathstroke, Harley Quinn, Man of Steel 2, The Joker, Justice League Dark, Black Adam, The Joker & Harley Quinn, Booster Gold, Batgirl, and Nightwing.
