Director Of The Raid Takes On Deathstroke For DC Films!
DC Films will be making a movie about Deathstroke the Terminator a.k.a. Slade Wilson, and has tapped The Raid director Gareth Evans to direct. The Wrap broke the story which also confirms that True Blood's Joe Manganiello is set to star. Manganiello has been attached to play the character in a DC Film since August 2016 when test footage of the character was revealed online by Ben Affleck. The character was going to be the main villain in The Batman movie, but since then Affleck backed out of the director's chair, new writers have been brought in, and Matt Reeves has been hired to helm the movie. Now it seems DC Films has taken the character out of The Batman film altogether to give him his own stand-alone film. However, he could make a cameo in that movie to set up his solo outing. Getting Gareth Evans to take on directing duties for Deathstroke is perfect as anyone who's seen The Raid will know his sensibilities lend themselves to the mercenary character.
Created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, Slade Wilson/Deathstroke the Terminator first appeared in The New Teen Titans #2 in 1980. He's an assassin who's exceptional abilities in hand-to-hand combat, marksmanship, and weaponry are available to the highest bidder. The character has been played by various actors in animation and live-action including Ron Perlman in the animated Teen Titans series, Wentworth Miller and Fred Tatasciore in the Young Justice animated series, Manu Bennett on The CW's Arrow, Thomas Gibson in the DC animated original movie Son of Batman, Miguel Ferrer in DC's animated Teen Titans: The Judas Contract film adaptation, and J.G. Hertzler in the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game.
