Two more Missions have been accepted by the Oscar winning writer/director!
Two More Mission Movies Coming From McQ & Cruise!
According to a report from Variety, which has now been confirmed by Christopher McQuarrie's official twitter account, the famed writer/director will helm two more Mission: Impossible movies! McQuarrie joined the franchise back in 2010 while Brad Bird was filming the franchise's fourth film, Ghost Protocol, to help out with the script. He then went on to write and direct both Rogue Nation in 2015 and Fallout in 2018 which was the highest grossing Mission movie to date with $790 million worldwide. Now the studio is planning to capitalize on the series' popularity by shooting the next two Missions back-to-back before Tom Cruise gets too old to perform the wild stunts that make these films so exhilarating. The plan is to write both movies this year and begin pre-production so that they can start to film both movies in 2020.
McQuarrie also has had a hand in other Cruise films such as Jack Reacher, Edge of Tomorrow, and the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick. He's also known for The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, and Jack the Giant Slayer. His screenplay for The Usual Suspects won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay back in 1996. As a filmmaker, Chris McQuarrie has become one of the most important figures in Hollywood over the last several years as he's known for naturalistic dialogue, intricate plots, and an apt, stylish directing ability. He's worked with some of the best in the industry and hopefully will continue to make quality films for years to come. Mission: Impossible 7 will be released in summer 2021 and Mission: Impossible 8 will sometime in 2022.
