This movie has been in development since way back in 2006 when Alfred Gough and Miles Millar were writing a draft of the screenplay which quickly fell apart. Years later, in 2011, Tim Allen and Tom Hanks were going to co-star in the adaptation, but that project was also soon discarded. Finally, in 2015, Disney announced that Dwayne Johnson would star in the movie version of their theme park attraction with John Requa and Glen Ficarra penning the screenplay. In July 2017, Jaume Collet-Sera was hired as the director, and in January 2018, Emily Blunt singed on as Johnson's co-star.  In the ensuing months Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, Paul Giamatti, Quim Gutierrez, and Edgar Ramirez have also joined the cast. The studio has had plenty of success bringing the Pirates of the Caribbean ride to life, but they also had dismal results with The Haunted Mansion. It's still surprising that they haven't tried to bring Space Mountain or another popular attraction to life, although many of them are based on already existing movies.

Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson welcome you to the adventure of a lifetime! Disney’s Jungle Cruise is now in production. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Sera, written by John Requa and Glen Ficarra and Michael Green, and stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, Paul Giamatti, Quim Gutierrez, and Edgar Ramirez. The story follows a boat captain who takes a doctor and his sister on a dangerous expedition down a deadly river to find a mysterious tree with healing powers as they battle wild animals and a competing troop of ruthless explorers. The film is currently shooting in Hawaii and is set to arrive in theaters on October 11, 2019.
