Fox Searchlight released the first trailer for director Wes Anderson's next foray into stop-motion filmmaking, Isle Of Dogs, online today. The story follows AtariI Kobayashi, a 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi, who goes on an adventure to find his lost dog. The cast here is outstanding which is no surprise considering his first stop-motion film, Fantastic Mr. Fox, included the voice talents of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson, Brian Cox, and Jason Schwartzman. That movie came out in 2009 to critical acclaim but grossed only $46 million on a $40 million budget. Hopefully, this film, which seems to be much more advanced, will get more butts in seats. It's great to see a studio take a risk on a movie like this since so few of them get made.
Isle of Dogs is written and directed by Wes Anderson, features music by Alexandre Desplat, and stars Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Fances McDormand, Courtney B. Vance, Harvey Keitel, Liev Schrieber, Scarlett Johnasson, and Tilda Swinton. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture. The movie opens in theaters March 23, 2018.
