Writer/producer/director J.J. Abrams created the Cloverfield universe as his own Twilight Zone-esque series of films which could explore various science-fiction genres within the same shared cinematic universe. The series has allowed many up-and-coming directors to step into this unique world and tell self-contained stories which are part of a larger narrative. The Cloverfield Paradox is the third film in the series, but it's the first to explore the origin of this universe and it's odd happenings. It's a taunt sci-fi thriller set on a claustrophobic experimental space station filled with and international crew looking to bring renewable energy to the Earth when something goes horribly wrong. The original film from 2008 followed a group of young adults who get caught in the middle of a giant monster's attack on New York City, while the second film, released in 2016, saw a young woman trapped in a bunker by a deranged man who claims he's protecting her from aliens who have invaded the planet. This has proven to be a very unexpected film series and one that has passionate fans around the world.
